Glyn Hopkin event highlights strong local demand for electric vehicles where the all-new Nissan LEAF is previewed and many attendees instantly place an order – despite purchase price not yet being confirmed.
Hertfordshire is securing its place at the heart of the UK’s shift towards zero-emissions motoring, judging by an exclusive electric vehicle (EV) preview event held earlier this week at the Glyn Hopkin Nissan car showroom in St Albans. The occasion gave local people an early preview of the all-new pure-electric Nissan LEAF, which is on sale from January. Almost 100 Glyn Hopkin customers attended and 12 orders were taken – particularly remarkable as prices have yet to be announced.
Nissan selected the St Albans dealership for its exclusive LEAF preview event due to very strong local demand for EVs across Hertfordshire and the South East over recent months. So far this year UK sales of pure electric cars have risen dramatically – up by 71%, year-on-year, in October alone.
“The response to the car so far has been extraordinary,” explains Fraser Cohen, Managing Director at Glyn Hopkin. “The number of attendees at our LEAF preview far exceeded our expectations, and we certainly didn’t expect so many people to place an order, not least because the preview car on display couldn’t be driven and we haven’t yet announced prices.
“The previous-generation LEAF is the UK’s best-selling pure electric vehicle and it has always been a very popular model in Hertfordshire and across our wider Nissan network.” He adds: “That momentum is set to increase now that the new model – dramatically improved in all areas, including range – has been confirmed for sale within the next few months.”
The new UK-built LEAF features a bigger battery, more powerful electric motor and an extended range of up to 235 miles, as well as an innovative ‘e-Pedal’, which lets the driver accelerate and brake with only one pedal.
