ULEZ stands for ‘Ultra Low Emission Zone’, and it was introduced in April 2019 to help generate cleaner air in London. It’s in operation 24 hours a day, every day of the year (except Christmas Day).
Anyone driving a vehicle within the Zone that doesn’t meet ULEZ emission standards is required to pay a fee.
Currently, ULEZ covers all areas within the North and South Circular Roads (but not the actual roads themselves, the A406 and A205).
From 29 August 2023, ULEZ’s reach will expand to include all London boroughs.
The ULEZ charge is just one example of why low/zero-emission vehicles are very cost-efficient to run. There are many other reasons, of course.
For a start a 100% electric vehicle is considerably more affordable to run than a regular, combustion-engine car. And while plug-in hybrids aren’t completely emission-free, they produce considerably fewer CO2 levels than regular vehicles while returning significantly more miles to the gallon.
It’s no surprise, then, to learn that all fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are exempt from ULEZ charges, as are Euro 4-compliant hybrid/petrol and Euro 6-compliant hybrid/diesel cars.
Glyn Hopkin is an authorised dealership group for a wide range of popular models, including Abarth, Fiat, KIA, MG, Nissan and Renault. All of the aforementioned brands produce electric and/or hybrid cars, which means we offer a huge choice of low/zero-emission models.

In order to comply with ULEZ requirements, petrol/hybrid cars must meet with Euro 4 emissions standards, and diesel/hybrid cars need to meet with Euro 6 emissions standards.
All plug-in hybrid and pure-electric vehicles are ULEZ compliant.
If your vehicle isn’t ULEZ compliant and you drive it within the Zone, you’ll be required to pay £12.50, which is a daily tariff.
Currently, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) applies to anywhere inside the North and South Circular Roads.
From 29 August 2023, the Zone will expand to incorporate all London boroughs.
All plug-in hybrid and pure-electric vehicles are exempt, ensuring that owners won’t be charged when driving within the Zone. All Euro-4 compliant hybrid/petrol and Euro 6-compliant hybrid diesel cars are exempt from ULEZ charges too.
