Alpine A290 Named ‘Best Fun EV’ at the 2025 Autocar Awards

The Alpine A290 has been crowned Best Fun EV at the Autocar Awards 2025, with judges praising it for “rewriting the formula” of electric driver’s cars.

This all-electric hot hatch stood out among EVs of all price points, impressing Autocar’s editors with its thrilling driving dynamics, everyday usability, and approachable price tag. Starting from £33,500 OTR, the A290 proves that electric cars can still be engaging, responsive—and fun.

Autocar Editor Mark Tisshaw highlighted the A290’s intuitive handling and natural balance:

“It has a totally natural ability to flow from corner to corner... and is as intuitive to use as it is to drive.”

With engineering roots tied to iconic Renaultsport hot hatches, the A290 brings Alpine’s motorsport DNA into the EV era. It features a lightweight, agile chassis, advanced suspension setup, and an F1-inspired steering wheel complete with an Overtake button for instant power.

Available in five trims—GT, GT Premium, GT Performance, GTS, and Launch Edition—the A290 offers a 52kWh battery with either 180hp or 220hp, plus Alpine Telemetrics for performance-focused driving. Range reaches up to 236 miles WLTP, and rapid charging from 15–80% takes just 30 minutes.
