The Nissan e-NV200 Joins Solihull’s Neighbourhood Team

The ground breaking Nissan e-NV200 has teamed up with the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to help make the West Midlands a nicer place to live.

The all-electric van that costs just two pence per mile to run will be used by the Solihull Neighbourhood Services team, helping them on a number of community focused projects.

The council has a fleet of sixty-nine vehicles, which includes everything from small city cars, minibuses and an 18-tonne tanker – and now for the first time ever, an all-electric van!

The Neighbourhood Services team co-ordinates and delivers projects designed to bring together communities from all walks of life across the borough, working on everything from park improvements to sports projects for teenagers.

The team previously operated out of a diesel Vauxhall panel van, but the need for a larger load area and second row of seats to accommodate apprentices and volunteers led them to the Nissan e-NV200 Combi, and it was the perfect fit.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, Cabinet Member for Environment, Housing and Registration said: “The e-NV200 has shown us just how electric vehicles can work for us. From our perspective, the technology has come so far that every time a department has a need for a new vehicle or a lease comes up for renewal we will be looking to see if there’s a viable electric option.

“In addition to out clean-air responsibilities, it’s important that we as a council also do what we can to reduce the number or large vehicles on our roads. The e-NV200 is just the right size for us, giving the team all the room they need to transport people and tools while saving on fuel bills.”

The award-winning Nissan e-NV200 is the combination of the NV200 – a former International Van of the Year winner – with the proven technology of the record breaking Nissan LEAF – the world’s best-selling electric car.

It costs just two pence per mile to run and comes with the additional benefits of ultra-low maintenance costs, leading to a total cost of ownership that is £1,200 low than a conventional diesel van over a four year span. It has a single charge range of 106 miles and can be fully charged from flat in just 30 minutes.
