Nissan has showcased two striking special versions of their best-selling crossovers, the Qashqai and X-Trail and the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Using the current models, Nissan have aimed to provide a more premium and dynamic design offering that could enhance and extend the appeal of its award-winning crossover range in the future.
The two new cars have been named the Nissan Qashqai Premium Concept and the X-Trail Premium Concept. Despite the two being different models, the colours, materials and themes which flow throughout them mean they are no doubt a pair.
With crossovers playing such a key part in Nissan's success across Europe, these two Premium Concepts showcase Nissan’s desire to branch out further in their target market while acknowledging customer diversity.
Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President, Design and Chief Creative Officer, Nissan Co. Ltd said: “We allowed the creativity of our design teams to shine through in this two car project. We settled for two designs – which are contrasting but share common themes.”
Both concepts offer a fresh take on the widespread appeal of a premium Nissan Crossover. Despite having common themes both of the Premium Concept’s have a unique styling designed to appeal to a very different customer. The Qashqai has been designed for the “Premium Urbanite”, a person who enjoys and dreams of a weekend absorbing the cultural highlights of a European City such as Geneva. To differ, the X-Trail is aimed at the “Premium Adventurist”, who will be thinking of mountain adventures in the Alps or the Pyrenees.
Dominated by a matte black colour, the Qashqai Premium Concept smartly blends design, colour and new materials. A beautiful contrast can be seen with high quality premium golden copper-coloured detailing on the body shell, wheel arches, around the window line, in the headlamp clusters and on the roof rails with a sharp black to enhance the dynamic profile of the exterior.
Adding further sportiness and boldness is the bumpers and side sills along with an enhanced “V-motion” grille which gives a purpose to the car’s nose.
Inside, Nissan has taken premium quality in the compact crossover segment up a notch with the addition of soft white Nappa upholstery with a quilting finish on the central section of seat back and base. The expression of a high-quality, premium feel is further enhanced by the use of a unique premium golden copper gold weave carbon fibre throughout the interior, contrasted with a daring black satin chrome and liquid gloss black on steering wheel and gear shifter for a perfect finish.
In contrast to its sibling, the X-Trail Premium Concept uses a matte white paint as its main colour, while the bonnet and roof are coated with a deep black matte carbon fibre, giving the car a premium yet tough presence.
The high contrast of white and black highlights the line which begins at the “V-motion” grille and continues through to the bonnet and side to the rear of the car. This contrast also reflects the rugged “go-anywhere” attitude of the adventurous X-Trail. Viewer’s eyes are drawn towards the front skid plate thanks to its premium golden copper colour which is also featured on the 20-inch wheels. The body claddings and over fenders are painted in a gloss black which gives the X-Trail a sophisticated touch.
Inside the cabin, premium leather with a natural tan and black colour scheme can be found, with a ‘cloud effect’ design on the head rest and seat sides along with Ultrasuede gold pearl leather piping on the central section of seat back and base. Completing the look is matte chrome black dashboard and door trim, giving the interior space a premium sports appeal.
