Nissan is celebrating one of their most significant milestones as figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturing and Traders (SMMT) that the 10,000 th Nissan LEAF has been sold in the UK.
Since launching in 2011, the Nissan LEAF was quickly identified as the best all electric vehicle available and has since gone on to establish itself as the nation's favourite electric vehicle, fending off competition from newer arrivals on the market time and time again.
In the first half of 2015 alone, the Nissan LEAF sold over 2,964 units throughout the UK, pushing the total number of LEAF's sold in the UK to 10,161.
Over half of the LEAF's total sales took place in the last 12 months, indicating that the best is yet to come as people all over the UK seek more environmentally friendly alternatives.
The data released also shows that the Nissan LEAF is outselling competing pure electric models by a rate of more than two-to-one through the first half of 2015!
News of the 10,000 th UK sale comes just as the brand new Acenta+ grade joins the LEAF line-up, offering up even more choice to drivers looking to make the switch to an all electric vehicle.
James Wright, Managing Director for Nissan, commented: “The UK's electric vehicle market is growing at an extraordinary pace and while it may be too early to talk about tipping points, today's achievement certainly indicates we're well on our way.
“I am proud that the Nissan LEAF has played such a major role in changing perceptions of EV ownership and I am even prouder that the UK is now the number one market for LEAF sales in Europe."
