Nissan has confirmed that the Nissan Kicks e-POWER will make its European debut, supported by a major £170 million investment at the manufacturer’s Sunderland plant.
Nissan's new compact hybrid crossover will join the Qashqai, Juke and LEAF in production, bringing another electrified option to the European line-up.

The Nissan Kicks is a compact B-segment crossover designed to combine SUV styling and everyday practicality with Nissan’s latest electrified technology.
Although the Kicks is already a well-established name internationally, this announcement marks its first official entry into the European market. More than 1.8 million examples have been sold across over 70 countries since the model was first introduced.
European versions of the Nissan Kicks will feature Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER hybrid system, providing customers with another route into electrified driving.
Final UK prices, grades, performance figures and the official on-sale date have not yet been announced. Glyn Hopkin Nissan will share further information as soon as it becomes available.
Nissan e-POWER takes a different approach to conventional hybrid technology.
In an e-POWER vehicle, the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor. A petrol engine generates the electricity required to power the motor and recharge the battery, rather than driving the wheels directly.
This means motorists can enjoy smooth, responsive and linear electric-motor acceleration without needing to connect the vehicle to an external charger. Drivers simply refuel at a petrol station as they would with a conventional car.
This technology is already available in the Nissan Qashqai and X-Trail. The arrival of the Kicks will expand Nissan’s e-POWER offering into the compact crossover segment, giving customers even more electrified choice.

The Nissan Kicks will become the 10th model allocated to Sunderland since production began at the plant in 1986.
Over the past four decades, the facility has manufactured more than 12 million vehicles for over 100 markets, establishing Sunderland as the UK’s largest single-site car manufacturing plant.
Around 6,000 people are employed directly at the facility, with an estimated 30,000 additional jobs supported throughout the wider supply chain. Nissan’s investment in Sunderland has now reached approximately £5 billion, with the latest £170 million commitment supporting preparations for Kicks production.
The Kicks follows some of Britain’s most familiar Nissan models, including the Bluebird, Primera, Micra, Almera, Note, Juke, Qashqai and pioneering all-electric LEAF.
The announcement strengthens the story celebrated through the Nissan By Britain campaign: “Designed. Built. Loved. By Britain.”
For 40 years, British teams have played an important role in shaping Nissan vehicles. Models are designed at Nissan Design Europe in Paddington, developed and tested by engineering specialists in Cranfield, and manufactured by skilled teams in Sunderland.
The Nissan Kicks adds another model to the “Built in Sunderland” chapter of that story, alongside the Qashqai, Juke and LEAF.
Sunderland is also preparing to manufacture the third-generation Nissan Juke, which will become fully electric for the first time. Meanwhile, Nissan has named its forthcoming A-segment electric car PIXO, demonstrating the pace at which the brand’s European product range is evolving.
