The new BYD DOLPHIN G DM-i and MG4 EV Urban give drivers two different ways to enjoy efficient, technology-led motoring in a practical hatchback. The DOLPHIN G DM-i is a plug-in hybrid that combines electric driving with the flexibility of a petrol engine, while the MG4 EV Urban is fully electric.

The BYD DOLPHIN G DM-i brings BYD's Super Hybrid with DM technology to a compact five-door hatchback designed specifically for Europe. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine, electric motors and Blade Battery work together to prioritise smooth electric driving while retaining petrol power for longer journeys.
Selected versions can travel up to 65 miles using electric power alone and offer up to 646 miles of combined range from a full battery and fuel tank. Weighted fuel economy can reach a claimed 201.7mpg, although real-world results will depend heavily on charging frequency, journey type and driving conditions.
The DOLPHIN G DM-i also offers useful family practicality, with a 425-litre boot that expands to 1,225 litres when the rear seats are folded. Its cabin includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, while the central touchscreen measures 10.1 inches on Active or 12.8 inches from Boost upwards. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, while higher versions add features such as heated front seats, wireless phone charging, Google built-in connectivity and a 360-degree camera.
Four versions give customers a choice of price, electric range and equipment:
Boost, Comfort and Sport versions support 6.6kW AC charging and up to 39kW DC charging, with a claimed 10–80% charging time of 26 minutes in suitable conditions.
The MG4 EV Urban is a fully electric, five-seat hatchback created to make everyday EV ownership simple and accessible. Customers can choose between a 43kWh Standard Range battery or a 54kWh Long Range battery, with an official range of up to 258 miles WLTP depending on the version.
The Comfort Standard Range offers up to 201 miles from its 43kWh battery, while the Comfort Long Range increases this to 258 miles. Both use rear-wheel drive, helping the MG4 EV Urban deliver a composed and responsive driving experience. Charging from 10% to 80% takes around 30 minutes when connected to a suitable rapid charger.
Inside, the MG4 EV Urban combines a digital driver display with a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MG's iSMART connectivity. MG Pilot driver-assistance technology is also included, while the Premium Long Range adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, privacy glass and connected services.
The 388-litre boot expands to as much as 1,164 litres with the rear seats folded. The model is also supported by MG's seven-year or 80,000-mile vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty.
