The pricing and specifications for the new Fiat 124 spider have been announced recently at an international media event in Verona, Italy. Styled with classic Italian flair and reviving an iconic nameplate, the new Fiat 124 Spider brings back an authentic legendary Italian Roadster driving experience to a whole new generation of enthusiasts.
At the front-end the Fiat 124 Spider encapsulated the heart of its classic predecessor in a modern and striking package – broad and muscular yet also elegant and perfectly proportioned. With its long wheelbase, a cockpit that sits low near the driven rear axle and a long bonnet the profile view is pure classic roadster. Completing the look is a horizontal line that emerges from the front wing that rises up over the rear haunch and flows towards the tail lamp, highlighting the distinctive bodywork of the original Fiat 124 Spider.
The nose of the Fiat 124 Spider also takes its inspiration from the 1966 original with the style and position of the LED headlamps and the hexagonal upper grille all similar to those from the classic roadster. On the rear is two main features – swallow-tail rear wings and sharp horizontal tail lamps with their unique ring shape. An integrated rear spoiler enhances the aerodynamic performance of the Spider, while twin exhaust outlets are a memento of its sporting heritage.
The Fiat 124 Spider will be available in eight different colours which include two pastel finishes (Passione Red and Ice White), five metallic shades (Volcano Black, Argentio Grey, Fashion Grey, Magnetic Bronze and Italia Blue) and one tri-coat pearlescent finish: Urban White.
To further improve the driving experience is a multi-layer canvas hood that can be operated in seconds using minimal force and without the driving having to leave their seat. Inside, is a cabin that has been built to perfection from a variety of top-quality soft-touch and premium materials along with a first-class layout for the pedals, steering wheel and gear lever.
Under the bonnet of the Fiat 124 Spider sits a brand favourite 1,386cc MultiAir, turbo-charged four-cylinder engine which deliver 140hp and 240Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This results in a top speed of 134mph and acceleration time of just 7.5 seconds from 0-62mph.
For suspension the 124 Spider uses a double-wishbone layout in front and a multilink in the rear, specifically tuned for greater stability while braking and turning, while the dual-pinion electric power steering system gives the vehicle a responsive, Italian feel. Combined with a lightweight architecture and balance weight distribution the Fiat 124 Spiders offer a dynamic and exciting ride without compromising on comfort and refinement.
The Fiat 124 Spider also features and array of active and passive safety devices. Included as standard are a voice-controlled infotainment system (with Bluetooth), LED rear light clusters, four airbags, TPMS, cruise control, a speed limiter and ESC with ABS and EBD. Seat belts with pre-tensioners and Constant-Force Retractors to control the degree of force applied by the belt onto the occupant and then slowly release it in a controlled manner also come as standard.
Three trim levels will be offered in the UK: Classica, Lusso and Lusson Plus. On top of the standard equipment the Lusso is equipped with a seven-inch infotainment system as standard with satellite navigation and rear parking camera as well as 17-inch alloy wheels, heated leather seats, automatic climate control, front fog lamps, keyless entry, chrome exhaust tips and a premium silver finish on the windscreen frame and rollover bars.
