New Fiat 500 scoops City Car Award 2015

The new Fiat 500 TwinAir 85hp has won the City Car Award in the Next Green Car Awards 2015.

The Next Green Car Awards seek to provide an independent evaluation of the best new cars on the market and, coupled with the NGC Rating and an array of Next Green Car tools, aims to help car buyers make the best choice for a more economical and lower emission car.

The Fiat 500 was carefully selected from a green car shortlist of 40 new models, and its rating of 29 was based around its environmental impact, including CO2, NOx and particulate emissions, throughout the entire life cycle of the model.

Judges of the panel praised the iconic retro favourite for its design, quality, technology and most importantly, its excellent environmental credentials. Available as both a hard or soft top, the new Fiat 500 has CO2 emissions as low as 88 g/km* when equipped with the award-winning TwinAir 85hp engine and its official combined fuel economy boasts an impressive 74.3 MPG*.

Next Green Car commented that the new Fiat 500 “runs away with the City Car Award” thanks to its “raft of personalisation options, fantastic and frugal engines and a well sorted chassis." Chris Lilly, Content Manager of Next Green Car agreed, stating that the new Fiat 500 has “economy figures that rival the best in its class” and “offers a great blend of frugal fun and practicality.”

Fiat were, of course, delighted with the award with Sebastiano Fedrigo, Country Manager of Fiat UK commenting that he was “delighted” that the new model had been recognised by the Next Green Car judging panel “not only for its efficient and eco-friendly engines but also for its fun-to-drive characteristics, its quality and technological enhancements for 2015.”

He further went on to explain that the Fiat 500 range would see the addition of some new environmentally-friendly engines very soon. December will see the arrival of a new 1.3-litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engine which is claimed to have a fuel economy figure of 83 MPG and CO2 emissions of 89g/km, while 2016 will see the range introduce a new “Eco” version of the popular 1.2-litre engine.
