The all-new Fiat Tipo hatchback and Station Wagon have been showcased to the UK media in Turin, providing their first opportunity to experience its exceptional space, high specification, robust quality and outstanding efficiency, not to forget its stylish Italian flair.
The new Fiat Tipo hatchback is deceptively roomy, with the ability to accommodate three six-feet plus adult passenger in the back – thanks to class-leading leg room and headroom – within its 4.37m long, 1,79m wide and 1.50m tall dimensions. Its boot capacity is equally impressive with a volume of 440-litres, with the Station Wagon offering an additional 110-litres. The Station Wagon can carry loads of up to 1.8m in length courtesy of an extra 20cm in length and its flip-and-fold 60/40 split rear seats provide a completely flat load floor.
A number of components assist with the loading of the Station Wagon boot, such as adjustable load floor and removable side storage panels which further increase the width of the luggage compartment. The roller cover can also be removed just with one hand and stored under the floor panel, while two lights, two bag hooks and four load-retaining hooks positioned on the floor provide extra handiness.
Not stopping there extra space is also featured inside thanks to numerous cabin compartments which total no less than 12-litres. Easily reachable for driver and passengers, these handy compartments are perfect for storing personal items such as smartphones, bottles and coins. Maximum comfort is also assured thanks to excellent driving ergonomics and the clever placing of the secondary controls which can be easily reached by the driver without them having to take their eyes off the road.
The Fiat Tipo and Hatchback will both be offered in three trim levels and standard equipment is generous and includes on all models: air conditioning, remote central locking, front electric windows, body-coloured door mirrors with electric adjustment, six airbags, DAB digital radio, chrome door handles, split rear seats, a front seat centre arm rest, USB and Bluetooth connectivity with steering wheel remote controls. Higher specifications will also welcome the addition of Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, leather trimmed steering wheel, rear parking sensors, cruise control, climate control and satellite navigation.
The engine range consists of five options in total with the choice of three petrol engines and two turbo diesel engines. The entry level 1.4-litre 16v FIRE delivers 95hp at 6,000 rpm and 127Nm and is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. It is capable of accelerating the hatchback to 62mph in 12.1 seconds and offers a top speed of 115mh on both body styles. The official combined cycle fuel economy figure is 49.6 mpg for both and their CO2 emissions are both 132g/km.
The top diesel engine in the range is a 1.6 MultiJet II 120hp unit and can be combined with a six-speed manual gearbox or Fiat’s new DDCT six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. It is capable of accelerating to 62mph in just 9.8 seconds while the top speed, official combined cycle fuel consumption figure and CO2 emissions are the same for both bodies – 124mph, 76.3mpg and 98g/km.
The other engines include a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo petrol with 120ho and 206Nm, a 1.6-litre e-TorQ engine producing 110hp and 152Nm and a 1.3-litre MultiJet II with 95hp and 200Nm.
