The 2015 Istanbul Motor show took place last week and it played host to the unveiling of Fiat's latest compact sedan – the all-new Fiat Aegea.
The Aegea was designed in Italy at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Centro Stile, and was developed in Turkey in partnership with Tofas R&D, one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles largest research and development centres.
The all-new saloon is currently being referred to as the “Fiat Aegea Project" in tribute to the vital role Turkey has played in the development, manufacture and potential success of Fiat's latest vehicle.
The Fiat Aegea Project has been designed to portrait a completely new three-volume sedan, rather than as a hatchback with a boot. The result is a perfectly proportionate and cohesive vehicle with elegant flowing lines that run from the corners of the headlights to the edge of the rear headlight cluster.
The cohesive design becomes even more noticeable at the rear end where the surfaces, lines and detailing all blend seamlessly to give the Fiat Aegea Project a distinctive, attractive and perfectly-resolved appearance. A sculpted bonnet, broad grille and sophisticated headlamp clusters all combine to give the Aega Project the distinctively stylish and imposing look.
The Aegea Project sits at 4.5m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.48m in height with a wheelbase of 2.64m. It will comfortably transport five passengers, and the 510-litre load capacity means there will be plenty of room for their luggage too.
As is to be expected with all Fiat models, a range of reliable, powerful and efficient engines will be available with two MultiJet II Turbo-diesel engines and two petrol units to choose from, with power outputs ranging 95HP to 120HP. All engines are available with both manual and automatic transmissions - - and the diesel is expected to achieve up to 70 MPG!
The interior has been built to the highest standards and features the latest technology, including the Uconnect infotainment system equipped with a five-inch touch screen display, hands-free Bluetooth calling with audio streaming, SMS text message reader and voice recognition; AUX and USB Ports with iPod integration and steering wheel controls, with a TomTom satellite navigation system and rear parking camera available on request.
It's still undecided whether the Fiat Aegea will be available in the UK, but it will go on sale in Turkey from November, and release dates across Europe, the Middle East and Africa are to be announced afterwards,
