The all-new BYD Dolphin G DM-i is set to bring plug-in Super Hybrid technology to the compact hatchback market, offering drivers the everyday benefits of electric driving with the long-distance flexibility of a hybrid.
Designed specifically for Europe, the Dolphin G DM-i combines compact dimensions, family-friendly practicality and BYD’s advanced Super Hybrid with DM technology. This system is engineered to deliver an EV-like driving experience in most everyday situations, with the petrol engine working intelligently in the background when extra range is needed.
With up to 65 miles of pure-electric range on selected versions, the Dolphin G DM-i is ideal for daily commutes, school runs and local journeys using electric power alone. For longer trips, the intelligent hybrid system helps deliver up to 646 miles of combined range on a full charge and full tank of fuel.
Efficiency is a major strength of the new Dolphin G DM-i, with BYD confirming weighted fuel consumption of up to 201.7mpg. The model also features BYD’s trusted Blade Battery technology, offering a strong balance of range, durability and safety.
Despite its compact size, the Dolphin G DM-i has been designed with practicality in mind. Measuring 4,160mm long and 1,825mm wide, it sits firmly in the European supermini segment while offering a generous 425-litre boot, expanding to 1,225 litres with the rear seats folded.
Inside, the Dolphin G DM-i focuses on simplicity, comfort and useful technology. Depending on specification, features include a digital driver display, large touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats, a panoramic roof, head-up display and a 360-degree camera.
Performance is strong for a compact hybrid hatchback, with the electric motor producing 163PS and allowing 0–62mph acceleration in 8.3 seconds. Higher-grade versions also support DC charging, with the 18.3kWh Blade Battery able to charge from 10% to 80% in around 26 minutes.
The all-new BYD Dolphin G DM-i will be available in Active, Boost, Comfort and Sport versions, with equipment varying by trim. BYD dealers across Europe are expected to begin taking orders ahead of the summer holidays, with first customer deliveries due in early autumn.
Further UK pricing and final Glyn Hopkin availability will be confirmed in due course.
