The Renault Scenic E-Tech 100% Electric has outclassed the benchmark Tesla Model Y in the latest electric SUV competition by What Car? magazine.
The renowned magazine tested the Scenic against the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6. The Scenic, with its starting price of £37,495, was the least expensive yet came out on top. What Car? reported “The Scenic range kicks off at a keen £37,495, undercutting its rivals by thousands... indeed, we had to wheel out the most expensive version of the new Scenic, with its enormous ‘Long Range’ battery and range-topping Iconic trim, to make this a fair comparison with Britain’s best-selling electric SUV, the Tesla Model Y.”
Despite the lower price, the Scenic received five stars for its equipment and range. The magazine highlighted the Scenic’s spacious cabin, adding “The Scenic’s interior is a nice place in which to travel, featuring a tasteful blend of ambient lighting, soft-touch materials and an eclectic range of fabrics that spread from the dashboard to the headlining.”
“The Scenic’s front seats come with not only electric adjustment but also a massage function. This ease of adjustment, combined with a slightly elevated driving position (somewhere between the EV6 and Model Y) and comfortable, supportive seats, make the Scenic the one to go for when faced with a long journey. You’ll enjoy the best forward and side visibility in the Scenic, too. However, the Scenic has a bit more rear head and leg room than either of its rivals, and its seats offer significantly better under thigh support than the Model Y’s.”
What Car? concluded: “Sometimes a radical rethink is required, and Renault’s reinvention of the Scenic has turned out to be a masterstroke. This is a comfortable, practical, easy-mannered car that, when you consider its lengthy range and generous roster of kit, is incredibly well priced. It wins this test at a canter – and cheaper versions might even score five stars.”
