The Witney Neighbourhood Policing Team received a boost last week when they took ownership of a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
The Oxfordshire based policing unit is based out of Witney police station and also covers the surrounding villages. The arrival of the Outlander PHEV is expected to help officers get out into the community a lot more.
Previously, the team made up of nine PCSO's and four neighbourhood officers only had one vehicle available, a van that they could only use during the day as it was occupied by another branch of the Thames Valley police force during the evening.
PCSO Tracy Waller said: “Having the Outlander PHEV will help our Neighbourhood Policing Team be more visible in the community, which is great. It means we will be able to get out to incidents in rural areas much quicker.
“This is the first hybrid vehicle that Thames Valley Police have got and they are really interested to see how it works for us, in terms of the fuel consumption and the savings we make. We are trying to save money and the Outlander PHEV will help with that."
Since launching last year, the Mitsubishi Outlander has quickly become the UK's best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle, selling over 10,000 units by the end of March 2015.
Boasting an impressive all-electric range of 32.5 miles and an official combined fuel consumption figure of 148 miles per gallon, whilst emitting only 44g/km of CO2, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the perfect vehicle for the Witney Neighbourhood Policing Team to travel to incidents around the local villages. The team even has a charge point installed at the Witney police station already, meaning they will save even more on fuel.
