The revised Mitsubishi ASX crossover has officially arrived in UK showrooms. The design of the Mitsubishi ASX gets a sleek new look thanks to Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s (MMC) new “Dynamic Shield” visual identity, refreshing the vehicle and bringing it in line with other models in the range such as the Outlander and Outlander PHEV. The “Dynamic Shield” offers both functionality and reassuring safety with bold chromed streaks placed either side of the grille, shielding the three diamond mark.
It is not only MMC’s “Dynamic Shield” the new ASX welcomes as there is also the addition of a shark-fin antenna, revised seat cushions, new seat upholstery across the range and a new “Lightning Blue” colour option. Variant names in the new ASX range have also changed, returning to the straightforward ASX 2, ASX 3, ASX 4 and ASX 5 format, and there have also been changes to the trim levels.
The entry-level ASX 2 offers an extremely high level of standard equipment and includes: 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, leather-trimmed steering wheel, multifunction colour instrument display and electric front and rear windows. Take it up a trim level (ASX 3) and enjoy the addition of 18-inch alloys, automatic climate control, keyless entry and operation, cruise control, automatic light and rain sensors, xenon headlamps, reversing camera and heated front seats. Splurge a little bit more and with the ASX 4 you’ll get all the above plus leather upholstery, black roof rails, panoramic glass roof and the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System with satellite navigation. The range topping ASX 5 is Mitsubishi’s premium offering and features seats that are trimmed in rich Nappa leather available in a choice of three colours, heated rear seats as standard, twin rear USB charging ports, LED interior lighting and front door entry guards.
The versatile and efficient engine range is carried over from the previous ASX, with a 117hp, 154Nm 1.6-litre MIVEC petrol engine with a five-speed manual gearbox, a 114hp, 270Nm 1.6-litre DI-D turbo diesel engine with a six-speed manual gearbox and a 150hp, 260Nm 2.2-litre DI-D turbo diesel with a six-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to fuel economy and emissions, the 1.6 turbo diesel with front-wheel drive is the leader with just 119g/km and capability of 61.4mpg on the official combined fuel economy cycle. The 1.6-litre petrol engine produces emissions of 135g/km and is capable of 48.7mpg, while the 2.2-litre turbo diesel has emissions of 152g/km and returns 48.7mpg.
The Mitsubishi ASX range is supported by a five year, 62,500 mile warranty and comes with three-year pan-European roadside, home and accident assistance as standard. The Mitsubishi Service Plan covers scheduled maintenance for the first three years.
