Mitsubishi has just made the world debut of the new 2016 Outlander Sport and the 2017 Mirage at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Both US models introduce new design and features, whilst maintaining Mitsubishi’s unmatched value, attractive pricing and leading-class powertrain warranties.
The brand-leading Outlander Sport boasts a number of improvements for the model which include a redesigned steering wheel, new 6.2 inch infotainment system, high quality seat fabrics, new power folding side mirrors with LED turn indicators and a new 18-inch alloy wheel design.
Standing out for the new Outlander Sport is the ‘Dynamic Shield’ design concept featured at the front. This concept ties in with the Outlander's larger sibling – the seven-seater Outlander – bringing design unity to the brand.
Also new to the vehicle are three new exterior colours: Cool Silver, Diamond White Pearl and Quartz Brown for extra personality. In addition, the model comes with several innovative safety features to keep driver and passengers safe including an advanced seven airbag SRS system as well as Mitsubishi’s patented Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) safety body construction.
The new Outlander Sport model is currently planned to only be sold in the US.
Also revealed at the show was the re-designed 2017 Mirage which features a new exterior design, improved performance and enhanced interior appeal.
Outside, the Mirage has had a complete refresh with re-designed hood, grille, front and rear bumper, fog and headlamps, rear spoiler and wheels. In addition, the exterior has been engineered with an aerodynamic design to maximise fuel efficiency.
Inside, the new Mirage has an updated design with new seat fabrics, gauge cluster, steering wheel and shift panel to give in an extra edge. A new 300-watt Rockford-Fosgate audio system with EcoPunch is also available, along with a Mitsubishi-first in-car display audio supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Mirage continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder DOHC engine which features the latest version of Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) variable valve-timing system. This intelligent system helps in maximising fuel efficiency and power output, whilst greatly minimising exhaust emissions.
Mirage’s handling and brakes has also been improved thanks to an optimised spring rate and damping force of the shock absorbers. Further handling and stability is achieved with added stiffness to the front end, and changed material on the brake pad which has resulted in even better stopping performance.
Every 2017 Mirage comes equipped with a generous array of safety features and technologies including: a seven airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring system and Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL).
The new Mirage model is currently only due to be sold in the US.
When speaking about the two new models Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President, MMNA said that that Outlander is “eye-catching” and the brand-leader will “further its demand” thanks to its improvements. He also saw a positive future for the Mirage which he described as a “reliable, affordable and practical vehicle” that will “appeal even more” with its improvements for 2017.
