The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has impressed a film crew in a road challenge.
Campaign group Go Ultra Low’s usual film crew car was swapped for the nation’s much-loved Plug-in vehicle as part of the #EVChallenge series to see if it would be up to the job – and it exceeded expectations.
In a special video, Director Ian Nuttall explains how important it is that their film cars are rugged and reliable, as they are used for an array of tasks including as a base, as mobile shooting platform, for loading with boxes and equipment, as well as for travelling, so versatility is vital.
Despite initial reservations the Outlander PHEV wowed the crew with Nuttall concluding that the vehicle “Just works – not just as a crew car but also as a family vehicle" and that they have used it “constantly” since they’ve had it and would be “very happy to keep it.”
Nuttall also went on to highlight the benefit of fast chargers at motorway service stations which are perfect for keeping the Outlander PHEV topped up with electricity with just enough time for the driver to have a quick cuppa.
Cities are now receiving government funding to encourage thousands of people to consider switching to green vehicles such as the Outlander PHEV. In turn, this will support the UK’s thriving green vehicle sector, improve air quality in urban hotspots and help the government meet its emission-cutting targets.
With more than 15,000 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s sold in the UK since its launch in 2014, it has become a nation favourite. It currently accounts for around half of all Plug-in Car Grant applications, and with the new model, fuel economy is even better – up from 148mpg to 156mpg, while C02 emissions have also reduced from 44g/km to 42g/km.
The Outlander PHEV can travel up to 32 miles in electric mode alone – more than enough for the average daily commute. Even better it’s exempt from vehicle tax as well as the London congestion charge and qualifies for the Government’s Plug-in Car and Van grant.
With these impressive figures it’s no wonder the world’s first 4WD plug-in hybrid has won numerous awards. In 2014 it won Diesel Car’s Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle award as well as Business Car’s Best Green Development gong in its Techie Awards, while in May 2015 it was named Best Ultra Low Emission Vehicle at the Fleet World Honours. Not stopping there the PHEV was also awarded in 2015 the title of Plug-in Vehicle of the Year by Scotland’s National newspaper and SUV of the year in the Next Green Car’s annual awards.
