The Infiniti Q30: A new premium compact car

Infiniti has just announced all the details of the all-new Q30, Infiniti's very first premium compact car.

Every part of the new Q30 has been engineered to perfection, resulting in a complete and rewarding driving experience. Thanks to its flexible dimensions, confident dynamics, exceptional ride and handling as well as an array of innovative technologies it is prepared for any type of journey.

In addition to the Q30 – available in SE, Premium or Premium Tech – customers can also choose the Q30 Sport. The Q30 and Q30 Sport both offer unique characteristics in both design and dimensions. Most noticeably is that the Q30 Sport sits 15mm lower than the Q30 along with different driving performance as a result of individual features for each model.

Distinctive Design

With its bold character and daring design, the new Q30 is made for a new generation of buyers who want a unique, premium car. Maintaining its signature design cues from the original 2013 concept, the new Q30 offers an elevated yet dynamic stance, with first-class packaging and comfort.

Outside, the double-arch grille with 3D mesh has grown from the Q50, with a more fluid movement into the headlamps. The dramatic curves and turbulent lines flow throughout the vehicle with signature C-pillar arcs presented in a unique crescent shape, emphasising motion. The whole car gives the impression that it is in motion even when stationary thanks to its sleek, innovative design.

Infiniti’s bold approach to design continues inside the Q30 where buyers will find a vibrant design that challenges the traditional standard interior. The flowing theme continues inside with beautifully styled surfaces featuring wave shapes along with more dynamic lines that twist apart and flow away from the driver. Further personalisation can be found in the choice of three trims – City Black which blends black upholstery with purple stitching, Cafe Teak which combines classy brown and black upholstery with black stitching and Gallery White which features white leather with red accents. The highest quality materials have been used for the new Q30 to create a luxurious and modern-looking cabin.

Intelligent storage and comfort

Thanks to the Q30’s coupe-like design its interior gives the impression of space with ample legroom for all passengers. Ranking among the top in the premium compact segment this spacious design offers 626mm of leg room in front and a generous 538mm in the back. Cargo capacity is also kind providing a capacity of up to 368 litres, with 60:40 split-fold rear passenger seats for additional space.

The interior of the Q30 has been engineered to minimise driver fatigue and deliver a high degree of comfort. Aided by an incredibly firm bodyshell the cabin of the Q30 benefits from a low level of noise, vibration and harshness at all times – lower than every one of Q30’s rivals. Specially designed alloy wheels further reduce the noise and vibrations from the road. The Infiniti Q30 also boasts a class first with the addition of a new Active Noise Cancellation system, further ensuring high comfort levels in the cabin. Active Noise Cancellation emits sound waves throughout the four door speakers in order to reduce unwanted noise that may distract and fatigue the driver.

Providing further comfort for a more pleasant journey are carefully engineered seats to match the curvature of the spine. These innovative seats provide a consistent level of support and reduce the spinal curvature that many traditional seats force occupants to adopt. However, for drivers of the Q30 Sport who want a more purposeful appearance sports seats with integrated headrests are offered but are still designed with the same spinal support technology.

Innovative technologies

The Q30 features an array of innovative technologies that enhance the driving experience as well as providing maximum safety to all occupants. The latest safety technologies fitted in the Q30 include: Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Forward Emergency Braking, Auto High Beam Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control.

In addition to these assistive features, the Q30 lets users tailor their Infiniti to best suit conditions and their own preferences. With the dual-clutch transmission the driver can select from a choice of drive modes to alter the characteristics of the car. The Q30 is also offered with Infiniti’s trademark InTouch infotainment system in the form of a 7.0-inch touchscreen display. This infotainment system offers drivers and occupants a wide range of InTouch apps to make the journey more enjoyable as well as providing users with the latest turn-by-turn navigation system.

Confident Performance

The new Q30 offers a perfect balance between a comfortable ride and enjoyable handling. Thanks to specially tuned shock absorbers, the car stays firmly on the road. In addition, the suspension has been designed to be both forgiving and comfortable with settings offering two different styles of dynamic performance. With a tight body the Q30 offers a lively performance and faultless handling around corners. Equipped with electronically-controlled power steering with just 2.51 turns needed from lock to lock smooth, linear inputs can be delivered.

The Q30 offers a choice of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines to meet varied customer needs around the globe. All engines have been designed to provide smooth, responsive power delivery for an exciting and assured drive. The SE, Premium and Premium Tech models are available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, or a pair of turbo-diesel engines (1.5-litres and 2.2-litre).

The 1.6-litre petrol engine offers two different power and torque outputs. The 121hp engine will produce 200Nm and provide an acceleration time of 9.4 seconds from 0-62mph. For slightly faster thrills the 154hp 1.6-litre boasts a torque output of 250Nm and will accelerate to 62mph in a swift 8.9 seconds.

Completing the engine line up is a pair of turbo-diesel engines – a highly efficient 1.5-litre and a powerful 2.2-litre. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel is the most efficient engine in the Q30 range emitting just 108g/km of carbon dioxide and consuming just 68.9mpg on the combined cycle. The most powerful of the diesel engines is the 168hp 2.2-litre which produces 350Nm of torque, allowing 0-62mph acceleration of 8.3 seconds. In addition to the two diesel engines, the Q30 Sport models can come equipped with a 208hp 2.0-litre turbocharged DIG engine which can provide an impressive time of 7.2 seconds from 0-62mph.
