All-New Alfa Romeo Giulia wins first major UK award before release

The all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia has won its first major UK award taking the title of most eagerly-anticipated new car of 2016 by What Car? readers.

The model has been engineered on an all-new, rear-wheel drive platform with an emphasis on light weight, perfect weight distribution and handling agility. A range of advanced engines will be offered with the new Giulia – including a Ferrari-inspired 2.9-litre turbo-charged V6 producing 510hp in the top Quadrifoglio version.

With these attributes along with its unmistakable muscular Italian styling, it’s no wonder that the new Alfa Romeo Giulia scored 30 percent of the overall votes – 20 percent more than the nearest competitor.

Tens of thousands of What Car? readers cast their votes for their most eagerly anticipated new car of 2016 with the choice of ten cars to vote for. However, it was the Alfa Romeo Giulia that opened up an early and unassailable lead, resulting in its first major UK award well in advance of its launch later this year.

Commenting on the win, What Car? Editor, Jim Holder said: “You either have the X factor, or you haven’t – and Alfa Romeo has it in spades” thanks to its “extrovert styling combined with the firm’s heritage” which give the brand a “unique appeal.”

On receiving the award, Damien Dally, Country manager Alfa Romeo UK, said it was “very significant to win because it demonstrates that this important new car has what it takes to succeed.” He further went to explain that the designers and engineers have “poured over every detail” to make sure the brand delivers a “class-leading car” that will “not just meet readers expectations, but exceed them.”
