The highly anticipated Alfa Romeo Giulia has finally been revealed, and it looks fantastic!
This new exciting model has been developed by a team of the best engineers, designers and stylists at FCA. The new Giulia is the modern day embodiment of the elements that we love about Alfa Romeo – stylish Italian design, innovative technology, perfect weight distribution and lots of power!
The Giulia has taken on a completely different style from the previous 159 saloon - only the most iconic Alfa Romeo design cues remain in the trefoil nose V-shaped front grille and long sweeping bonnet that leads to steep, rounded windows. The headlamps have been transformed into to more elongated LED units that curve to meet with the wheel arches, with the rear tail lights undergoing a similar transformation. The addition of a small rear spoiler helps to complete the Giulia's sporty look.
The interior is completely centred around the driver with the main controls grouped together on the steering wheel. Its carbon fibre trim and a push to start button almost give the impression that you're seated in a Formula 1 cockpit. A large central screen that houses the infotainment system and the Alfa DNA system is also a welcome addition to a stylish, organised cabin.
It's the performance that really sets the Giulia apart from the rest of the competition.
Tuned by engineers from a Ferrari background, the Giulia's 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol engine delivers a staggering 510 hp, allowing it to accelerate to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds! The six-cylinder engine is made entirely of lightweight aluminium to reduce weight and offers surprisingly good fuel efficiency thanks to an electronically-controlled cylinder deactivation system.
The Giulia uses a sophisticated “Alfalink" multilink solution for the rear suspension, while a new double-wishbone set up has been employed on the front axle.
A new semi-virtual steering axis has been developed exclusively by Alfa Romeo to optimise the filtering effect and ensure rapid, accurate steering by keeping a constant caster trail in corners – insuring that the steering feels instinctive and natural, even at very high speeds.
Alfa Romeo prides themselves on the excellence of the mechanicals, and only use electronics if they directly improve the driving experience. With this in mind, the Giulia will introduce an innovative double-clutch Torque Vectoring system that controls the torque delivery to each wheel individually, improving traction in slippery conditions without having to use a mechanically invasive stability control system.
An integrated brake system will also be used that provides instant brake response, leading to record-breaking stopping distances.
