Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Revealed At the 2015 Detroit Auto Show

The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has just been revealed at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit!

It already looks to be the perfect follow up to the award winning 4C Coupe, combining scintillating performance with open top thrills and the irresistible sound of an Italian, performance tuned engine and exhaust.

With body work comprised entirely of SMC (sheet moulded compound), a low-density, high strength material that is 20 percent lighter and dimensionally more rigid than steel, the 4C Spider has been built with an exotic, ultra lightweight concept in mind. The chassis is made completely from unilateral, ‘pre-preg’, carbon fibre layers that deliver performance that is three times stronger and seven times lighter than steel. Even the 4C Spider’s windscreen and side windows have been made using 10 percent thinner class to reduce weight.

The exterior is largely similar to the award winning Coupe with most of the changes purely to facilitate the change from a fixed top to an open top. The 4C Spider’s body shape has taken on a much more traditional form with pronounced buttresses and a body coloured engine deck lid with three functional heat extractors and an aerodynamic spoiler.

Another new feature to make its debut on the 4C Spider Concept is an all-new titanium exhaust system developed by world-renowned exhaust specialist Akrapovic, featuring two centrally-mounted tailpipes and computer-optimised asymmetrical mufflers.

At the heart of the 4C Spider is the all-aluminium 1750cc turbocharged and intercooled engine delivering 237 BHP. Combined with the lightweight specifications, the 4C Spider can generate top speeds of up to 160 miles per hour and can achieve 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds!

The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will be on sale in Europe in the summer, and prices and UK specification will be announced closer to the launch.
