In addition to the current 140HP 2.0-litre diesel engine already on the market, the Jeep Cherokee will now be available with a modern 2.2-litre MultiJet engine in either 185HP and 200HP outputs. The new engines offer a much wider spread of torque from low RPM, greater power, improved performance and much better fuel economy.
The all new Cherokee 2.2-litre versions are only available with Jeep’s segment-first nine-speed automatic gearbox, matched to the Active-Drive four-wheel-drive systems and are available in both 185HP and 200HP variants offering 440Nm of peak torque. The new engines are matched to Jeep’s Active Drive I system, but can be specified with Active Drive II on the limited edition 200HP model.
The Active Drive I system comes with Jeep’s original rear-axle disconnect system, improving fuel economy, allowing the Cherokee 200HP 2.2-litre MultiJet II to reach a top speed of 127 mph. It can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 8.5 seconds and has an average combined fuel consumption figure of 49.6 MPG and CO2 emissions of 150 g/km.
Active Drive II models offer a two-speed power transfer unit for low range capability and hill-descent control. They have a top speed of 126 mph, 0-62 mph time of 8.7 seconds, and a combined fuel consumption figure of 46.3 MPG, with 160 g/km of CO2 emissions. Both versions are easily able to tow a staggering 2.5 tonnes.
The high trim Longitude and Longitude+ trim levels now come with a 185HP 2.2 MultiJet II variant, combining with the 4x4 Jeep Active Drive I with nine-speed automatic transmission. With this set up, the Cherokee will reach top speeds of up to 125mph with a 0-62mph time of just 8.8 seconds. Combined fuel economy and emissions are 49.5 MPG and 150 g/km.
The Jeep Cherokee has also seen a number of additional standard specification added to the model range including an electric tailgate, rain sensitive windscreen wipers, dusk sensor, eight-position electrically adjustable seat, four-position lumbar adjustment and automatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror with built-in microphone.
