Type R named ‘Best Performance Car’ in Women’s World Car of the Year Awards

Thrilling hot hatch all-new Honda Civic Type R wins ‘Best Performance Car’ title at the Women’s World Car of the Year Awards.

The all-new Honda Civic Type R was highly praised by a judging panel comprised entirely of women in automotive journalism from 20 different countries. There were 420 cars nominated for the title and was quickly narrowed down to a Top-60 shortlist whereby the Type R ranked alongside other powertrain competitors.

Sharing the same specifications as the Civic hatchback, the all-new Type R was engineered to deliver the utmost driving performance in the hot hatch segment – both on road and on the racetrack. The newly-improved 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO used from the previous generation Type R has been optimised and refined; now produces a record of 320 PS mustering 0 to 62mph in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 169 mph.

Philip RossSenior Vice President of Honda Motor Europe, said: “Women account for more than half of new car buyers, and have a significant influence over car-buying decisions, so it’s a fantastic achievement for Civic Type R to have been recognised in this way.” “The new Type R has blistering performance, but it also retains its position as the most practical and versatile of high-performance hatchbacks – which was a key factor in the judging of this award.”

The award-winning all-new Type R is exported across Europe and other markets across the globe, including Japan and the US. Its arrival in North America will mark the first time that any Honda-badged Type R has been officially sold there.
