Nissan Qashqai named Best Small SUV for third consecutive year

The popular Nissan Qashqai has scored an awards hat trick by being named What Car?’s Best Small SUV for the third year running.

At the prestigious awards ceremony in London, the Qashqai was awarded two titles. It took the crown for the “Best Buy” in the £15,000-£25,000 price point, as well as scooping the award for overall winner in the “Small SUV” category, beating sixteen other shortlisted competitors.

What Car?’s pick of the Qashqai line-up was the 1.5dCi 110 n-tec. The judges praised the models efficiency and economy, refined diesel power plant, smooth suspension and interior quality as well as its generous equipment levels.

On awarding the Qashqai for the third time, Jim Holder, Editorial Director for Haymarket, which publishes What Car? said “The Qashqai is one of the most economical and least-polluting vehicles in this category” and also has “high-quality interior that keeps wind, engine and road noise at bay.” The “icing on the cake” for the Editorial Director though was its “excellent practicality” with a “chassis that is well suited to British roads and impressive engine refinement.”

James Wright, Managing Director, Nissan Motor GB, said that the team were “delighted that the Qashqai charm has won over the What Car? judges yet again” and that the vehicle is “also a winner in the car buying public who have made the Nissan Qashqai the best-selling crossover in the UK.”

The Nissan Qashqai has had huge success since its launch. In September 2015 the new Qashqai became the fastest ever UK-built vehicle to smash the half million mark, and since production began in 2014, a new Qashqai has been built every 62 seconds, or 58 per hour!
