The Infiniti Q30 has officially started production at its newly extended Sunderland, UK manufacturing branch.
Following a £250m investment, the newly built facilities in the Sunderland branch have contributed to the addition of 300 newly created jobs to help support the premium Infinity brand.
The Q30 will be Infiniti’s first vehicle to be manufactured in Europe and this decision was made in 2012 in recognition of the outstanding quality and standards reached by the workforce in Sunderland over many years.
Trevor Mann, Chief Performance Officer of Nissan Motor Corporation said that over its thirty year history “Sunderland has grown into the UK’s largest automotive plant” which is “renowned for delivering high-quality, top-selling vehicles, and is regarded as a world-class production facility with a highly skilled and dedicated work force.”
Infiniti has created a new generation of premium car builders since their Sunderland plant opened, with an unprecedented training programme for 4,000 staff in the requirement and expectations of Infiniti customers. In addition, the workforce includes a specific group of newly appointed master craftspeople that must ensure every individual Q30 meets Infiniti’s premium manufacturing standards at every stage of the process.
The new production facilities at the Sunderland plant include a 100% automated body shop, where 134 robots with laser-welding precision have been installed to build a firm bodyshell, which makes the Q30 an extremely quiet car.
The second plant extension has been built for final assembly with the manufacturing process ensuring every Q30 is made at the individual Trim and Chassis shop where the Infiniti operators perform 1,191 different tasks to complete each model.
The All-New Infiniti Q30 will be available from Glyn Hopkin in January 2016 from £20,550 OTR. To find out more and be one of the first to own one, visit our Infiniti Centre St. Albans, Hertfordshire, or contact us using the buttons above.
