Glyn Hopkin Abarth Chadwell Heath has secured for sale at its High Road showroom one of just 133 examples of the striking Abarth 695 Record that will be built worldwide.
Based on the sporting, two-seat Abarth 695 Biposto, the Record version is powered by a 190 bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged 16-valve engine. Weighing in at only 997 kilograms, the car has the best power-to-weight ratio in its class and is able to sprint from zero to 62 mph in a blistering 5.9 seconds. Top speed, where permitted, is an equally racy 143 mph.
The limited production run of 133 cars is a deliberate reference to the 133 records held by the Abarth brand. This amazing tally began 50 years ago when company founder, Carlo Abarth, broke a new acceleration record in a Class G car at the Monza race track in Italy, aged 57. Unable to find the right driver, he decided to lose 30 kilograms in weight to slip into the tight cockpit himself. His Fiat Abarth '1000 Monoposto Record', with 105bhp, broke the acceleration record over the quarter-mile and 500-metre distances.
The 2015 Record is powered by a fittingly special engine, one which produces a class-beating 139 bhp per litre. Performance is secured by a mechanical self-locking differential combined with a manual gearbox. Completing the racing enhancements, the Record edition features an aluminium bonnet, 18-inch OZ alloy wheels, large Brembo brakes and a throaty Akrapovic exhaust. Inside, there is special instrument panel animation, Sabelt carbon shell seats, four point seatbelts, a cargo net in place of the rear seats (removed to save weight) and a uniquely numbered plaque denoting each car’s position in the limited run.
An exclusive 'Modena Yellow' exterior finish embellished with 'Tar Cold Grey' details and enamelled '695 Record' badge on the side provide the final flourish.
Fraser Cohen, Managing Director of Glyn Hopkin, said: “Abarth’s interpretations of Fiat’s iconic 500 have proved extremely popular in our Abarth centres, and the 695 Record is definitely one for the serious collector and performance enthusiast. With such a limited number available worldwide, it’s a privilege that Glyn Hopkin has played a part in bringing one to the UK and I doubt the lucky owner will ever see another one driving the other way!”
Abarth’s stunning 695 Record is priced from £36,610 on the road and will be on display at Glyn Hopkin Abarth Chadwell Heath early in the New Year. The Abarth range begins at £14,610 for the entry-level 595 1.4 T-Jet model.
