Making its debut at the 2016 North America International Auto Show (NAIAS) was the new premium sports coupe offering from Infiniti – the Q60.
The Q60 has been designed and engineered to perform with a compelling combination of daring design and thrilling performance and dynamics.
Outside, the new Q60 conveys a bold statement with its muscular lines and expressive sculpture. Signature cues ensure that the Q60 remains Infiniti recognisable, such as the double-arch grille and the crescent-shaped C-pillars which curve forward and highlight the car’s ‘in-motion’ appearance.
Light guide technology has been used on the LED headlights to spread light evenly on the road ahead, giving the impression of a human eyelid and providing an alluring face to the car.
Increased exterior dimensions and a striking silhouette further present the Q60 as a powerful sports coupe, along with standard 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels. The wheel gaps are tighter than ever, giving the car a low, dominant stance on the road.
Inside, the Q60 offers a personable and comfortable cabin space, based around the concept of a “driver’s glove”. Premium comfort and style flows throughout the interior with high-contrast stitching, high-end accents and modern looking materials.
The new range of engines available with the Q60 offer instant power, smooth responses to driver inputs, high performance output and mechanical efficiency.
The all-new high performance 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, from the new ‘VR’ family delivers first-class power and torque for an engine of its size, as well as greater fuel efficiency, delivering 400hp at 6,400 rpm and 475Nm with maximum torque at 1,600-5,200rpm.
Sitting alongside this is the option of a four-cylinder turbo-charged 2.0-litre engine, offering enhanced fuel injection for efficiency in all areas. This engine delivers 208hp at 5,500rpm and 350Nm with maximum torque at 1,500rpm.
The new Q60 has been fitted with an array of new and intelligent driving technologies to deliver exhilarating performance and a personalised experience behind the wheel.
Standard on Sports models is Infiniti’s Direct Adaptive Steering, which enhances the steering feel and feedback by intelligently communicating the driver feedback about road surface and chassis behaviour. The six driving modes are selected through the Drive Mode Selector which is located via menus displayed in the centre console. The six driving modes include: Customise, Standard, Snow, Eco, Sport and new for certain models – Sport+. The standard mode offers drivers Infiniti’s unique blend of enhanced ride comfort and agile handling as a default setting, whereas Sport mode will enhance the response of Direct Adaptive Steering, increasing the steering effort required, while reducing steering movement from lock to lock.
Two choices of suspension system on the Q60 enable the driver to tailor the response to suit their needs. The standard suspension set-up also seen on the Q50 Sports saloon ensures a low level of road noise and minimal interruption of unwanted vibrations, while allowing for more direct and linear handling responses.
As standard on the Q60 3.0-litre V6 engine versions is an all-new electronic suspension system – Dynamic Digital Suspension. Thanks to software and hardware upgrades, this new suspension system has been designed to offer first-class handling responses and agility as well as ultimate ride comfort. Drivers can change the focus of the suspension to their preference, Sport or Sport+ mode will enable more dynamic responses providing firmer damping control and more agile handling.
The Q60 comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission which has been engineered for excellent response and direct acceleration. Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) uses a lateral acceleration sensor to detect changes in the road, such as hills or corners, and adapts gear selection patterns according to the changing conditions. In Sport mode, drivers can select a more aggressive shift pattern, providing maximum performance.
Intelligent All-Wheel drive (AWD) is also included on the Q60 and offers better stability and road holding in low-grip conditions, distributing torque 50:50 between front and rear wheels in its default setting. If extra traction isn’t immediately required, the clever car system will detect this and revert to 100% rear-wheel drive.
Thanks to clever engineering the Q60’s noise, vibrations and harshness (NVH) levels are among the best in the segment. To effectively prevent negative noise frequencies from entering the cabin, Active Noise Cancellation is fitted in all Q60 models.
For those who want a less quiet cabin the all-new 13-speaker, Bose Performance sound system is sure to transform into a drivers very own audio heaven.
For ultimate driving comfort Infiniti’s hallmark ‘spinal support’ seats have been added which match to the curvature of a person’s spine, providing a consistent level of support as well as minimising the pressure on lower and upper back muscles.
The Q60 is equipped as standard with the latest generation of the company’s advanced infotainment system – The InTuition central control system .InTuition is all about personalisation and caters the interior environment according to occupants needs, this includes temperature, seating positions, audio-visual settings, navigation and more.
Infiniti’s high stance approach to safety is prominent in the new Q60 with a range of active and passive safety technologies which include: Around View Monitor, Intelligent Cruise Control with Distance Control Assist, Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Braking system, Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Intervention and Backup Collision Intervention.
