The Honda 2015 Civic Type R

The Honda Civic Type R is finally here!

After a five year wait, the world's most anticipated hot hatch has arrived. It has been dubbed as a 'race car for the road' and is powered by the most extreme, high performance Type R engine ever built!

Honda's engineers set themselves the task of developing a Civic Type R that would live up to the high expectation of the iconic red badge. They took their direction from the Japanese word 'Buttigiri' meaning 'to break through and leave the rest behind,' and the Civic Type R has been engineered to deliver a dynamic, class-leading performance on both the road and the track.

The new Civic Type R has been handed a fresh new look designed to give the car an aggressive and purposeful stance. The aerodynamic design gives the impression of a car that has been developed first and foremost to perform at speed, with unique downforce-generating features to create a negative lift.

To achieve this exceptional aerodynamic performance, the fourth generation Civic Type R was put through exhaustive aerodynamic analysis, testing and development as the development team tirelessly put it through its paces in the wind tunnel and on the track.

The New Civic Type R will be powered by an all-new direct-injected turbocharged 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine that delivers power, torque and performance figures that are unrivalled in the front-wheel drive hot hatch segment. Both the power output of 310HP at 6,500rpm and torque of 400Nm at 2,500rpm are higher than any other previous Honda Type R model.

The engine features a new turbo charging system that used Honda's Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) technology to boost low-end torque whilst sustaining acceleration. And when combined with the powerful new engine, produces performance levels that are unrivalled in its class. A top speed of 167mph and a 0-62mph time of just 5.7 seconds are achievable, all whilst emitting just 170g/km of CO2.

The all-new engine has been mated with a slick-shifting, six speed manual transmission, chosen to provide an intimate and rewarding connection with the driver, allowing them to feel connected to the engine during every gear change. Every one of the six gear ratios has been optimised for performance, matching the engines output and torque curve – the top speed of 167mph is achieved in sixth gear when peak power is reached at 6,500 rpm, for example.

A four-exit exhaust that has been tuned for performance and sound, gives the driver a sense of power the second the engine is started. The silencer, normally used to dampen noise, has been removed to enhance the natural sound of the exhaust, increasing in volume with the torque of the engine.

In addition to all of the performance enhancements, the new Civic Type R also sees improvements to the standard specification, with the optional GT pack available for those who want to benefit from a comprehensive suite of styling, convenience and safety enhancements.

The all-new Honda Connect infotainment system comes as standard, using the familiar 'swipe and tap' functionality of a smartphone to allow users to access a wide array of features including vehicle information, rear-view parking camera, satellite navigation, internet radio stations, Bluetooth connectivity and a number of apps available from the Honda App Centre. Automatic climate control air conditioning and cruise control are also available as standard.

For customers wishing to add further styling, convenience, infotainment and safety features to their Civic Type R, the all new GT pack is available. Extra benefits include; Garmin satellite navigation, front and rear parking sensors, dusk sensing headlights, rain sensing automatic wipers, electric fold door mirrors and adaptive cruise control.

The GT pack also includes a number of safety features in the form of Honda's Advanced Driver Assist Systems. The collection of sensor based safety technologies includes Forward collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, High-Beam Support System, Blind Spot Information, Cross Traffic Monitor and a Traffic Sign Recognition System.

There are also a wider selection of accessory packs available than ever before on a Type R, providing the customer with levels of customisation previously unavailable;

The Red Exterior Pack: Building on the car's sporty nature, this pack provides a combination of accessories that give the car an appealing, sporty look. A front grille garnish, door mirror covers, a rear diffuser decoration and a roof spoiler complete the sporty look.
