Abarth Side by Side with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP

Abarth have announced that they will be the Official Sponsor and Official Car Supplier for the Yamaha Factory Racing team!

The two year agreement will see the official Yamaha YZR-M1 machines, ridden by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and multiple World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo, embellished with the Scorpion logo on the front cowling.

The Scorpion logo is a symbol of a heritage of victories and passion which led to the birth of one of the great sensations in the cult of modern motor racing and will be placed on the nose of the two M1's. Abarth's official logo will also feature on the backdrop of the team's official communications and interviews.

Marco Magnanini, Head of Abarth Brand for the EMRA Region, said: “The agreement comes from several shared values between the two brands, innovation, love for performance and passion for racing: these are the pillars that allowed our two brands to build the prestigious partnership."

The main product of this partnership is the 695 Biposto which represents the perfect combination of road and race cars, the transfer of racing thrills to a legal road car built for everyday use, done seamlessly. It has the most powerful engine ever installed in an Abarth road car, with a 190 HP 1.4-litre T-jet engine combined with a total weight of just 997kg that allows the 695 Bispoto to go from 0-62mph in just 5.9 seconds – as well as record agility thanks to an increased wheel track and a compact body. It is also the first ever road car in its category to be fitted with a dog-ring gearbox.

Movistar Yamaha GP team will be looking to add to their record of six world championships won since 2004 on November the 8 th when the new MotoGP World Champion will be crowned. And it would signify a return in style for Abarth, whose scorpion logo has not been seen on a MotoGP starting grid since the 2007 Australian Grand Prix.

The return this season will mark the return to where it all began for Abarth: It was in 1928 when a very young Carlo Abarth achieved his first sports success on the saddle of a motorbike. The following year he built his first personalised motorbike with the Scorpion logo.
